One of the best I heard in 2016. Beautiful melodies and an amazingly familiar voice (familiar to everything I enjoy in music - honest, soothing, surprising, spicy! Well done Charlotte!
Favorite track: Your Love Means Nothing.
"Seasons" unravels a tender relationship through time. Summer, fall, winter and spring are all stages of love: the full swing of summer, the decline of fall, the iced mourning of winter, and the new beginnings of spring. Through the course of four triptychs, the elements embrace this romantic play.
Charlotte Savary wrote the songs over changing seasons. When she told this to her longtime producer Manuel Armstrong (Felipecha), he instantly thought about recording the album throughout the year during each of those shifting seasons. This gave a timeless maturity to the instrumentation. The production followed the mood of each season, leaving time for sounds to ripen and create the ideal setting for Charlotte’s truly special voice.
The album was produced in the indie studios of Paris, Juno2. Manuel Armstrong recorded and performed most of the instruments, inviting outstanding musicians to play along. On drums, Raphaël Chassin (Vanessa Paradis, Hugh Coltman), on trombone, Daniel Zimmermann (Le Sacre du Tympan), on double bass Baptiste Germser (Stephan Eicher), on acoustic folk guitar Taofik Farah (Carla Bruni, Imani), on piano Julien Agazar (Manu Dibango, Keziah Jones). Cellos were performed by Matthieu Detton and flutes by Marine Thibault (both from Wax Tailor).
